Garbage and Recycling Services

The Village of Telkwa encourages residents to reduce, reuse and recycle. Curbside recycling pick-up days are every second Tuesday, or recyclables can be taken to the Smithers-Telkwa Transfer Station on Donaldson Road. The Village also provides garbage pick-up every Wednesday (East side) and Thursday (West side).

A calendar of garbage and recycling dates can be found HERE. Please visit the Village Office if you would like a paper copy.

Recycling Program

The Village of Telkwa offers a curbside recycling program in partnership with Recycle BC. Recycling is picked up every second Tuesday. Blue plastic recycling bags can be picked up free from the Village Office.

PLEASE HAVE YOUR RECYCLE BAGS OUT BY 8:00 AM ON PICK UP DAY.

For a complete list of what can be recycled through the curbside recycling program, please see the Village of Telkwa Recycling Guide or pick one up at the Village Office.  Find out where to recycle items not accepted by the Village--check out the Regional District recycling brochure.

Here are some tips and tricks to ensure garbage pick-up runs smoothly…

The owner or tenant is responsible for purchasing and maintaining, in good order and repair, a garbage cart as mandated by Village of Telkwa Bylaw No. 605.
Only the mandated garbage carts will be picked up by the Village.
For occasional extra garbage, garbage stickers can be purchased at the Village Office for $2.00 and attached to extra bags.
Place your garbage cart at the curb or the end of your driveway prior to 8:00 am.
Do not overfill your container--ensure that the lid is completely closed. Overfilled containers will not be emptied. Any garbage that is not inside the garbage cart will not be collected unless it has an extra bag sticker on it.
