Utility Person I – Public Works

Full-Time Position (Term Certain)


The Village of Telkwa is seeking applications for a full-time Utility Person I (Term Certain) in the Public Works Department from June 1, 2017 to May 30, 2018. The position is under the supervision of the Utility Person II, III, and Working Foreman and assists with the day to day operations of the Public Works Department. This may include such things as:

  • Maintenance of the water, wastewater, and storm sewer systems
  • Maintenance and repair of streets, parks, trails, and green spaces.
  • Maintenance and repair at the Cemetery
  • Garbage collection
  • On-call duties as assigned after probationary period

Proponents must have a minimum of Grade 12 with certificate of graduation or equivalent supplemented by carpentry, mechanical or equipment operator experience. Candidates must have a valid Class 5 driver’s license (unrestricted) and provide a current driver abstract at time of application. Clearance on a pre-placement medical test will be required. Although not required, preference will be given to candidates with EOCP Level I certifications in one or more of the four disciplines.

This is a CUPE Union position and will be subject to associated Union dues. A detailed job description can be viewed here. The hourly rate of pay for this position is $25.34 with an attractive Benefit Package after completion of the required 90 working day probationary period.
