FireSmart Committee

FireSmart is a program that provides communities across Canada the information and tools they need to manage interface fire protection issues. Interface issues occur when residential, agricultural or industrial settings with natural vegetation are at risk for wild fire. Fires that have the potential to involve buildings and wildland fuels or vegetation simultaneously are known as interface fires.

To protect our community, Telkwa is establishing a FireSmart Committee and is looking for volunteers. This Committee will start in February of 2016.
The Committee would oversee the process of establishing and maintaining the Strategic Wildfire Prevention Initiative.

Committee tasks will include: assessing hazard areas; planning community outreach to inform the public of the FireSmart program; and advising Council to ensure FireSmart principles and guidelines are being followed.

If you are interested in being involved with Telkwa’s FireSmart Committee, please contact the Village Office by phone at 250-846-5212, or facsimile at 250-846-9572, or by email at  Deadline for submission is February 12, 2016.
