CLOSED - Director of Finance

(Temporary Full-Time Exempt Position)

The Village of Telkwa is seeking an experienced individual for a temporary 6-month position as Director of Finance, with the possibility of extension. Reporting directly to the Chief Administrative Officer, the successful applicant will be responsible for financial administration and analysis, strategic planning, and fiscal and project management as part of the Senior Management Team. A thorough knowledge of Canadian Public Sector Accounting Standards, the Community Charter and Local Government Act is required. Strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills  and a minimum of 5 years of local government experience is required. Candidates with a formal post-secondary education in business, commerce or finance fields and a CPA designation will be preferred. A detailed job description can be viewed here.

LABOURER (GROUNDSKEEPER) – PUBLIC WORKS
Full-Time Position (Term Certain)

The Village of Telkwa is seeking applications for a full-time Labourer (Groundskeeper) (Term Certain) in the Public Works Department from June 1 to October 20, 2017. Proponents must be skilled in landscaping and grounds keeping and be physically able to perform the duties necessary to maintain Village parks and grounds. Candidates must have a valid Class 5 driver’s licence (unrestricted) and provide a current driver abstract at time of application. Clearance on a pre-placement medical test will be required. This is a CUPE Union position and will be subject to associated Union dues.The hourly rate of pay for this position is $23.20 plus 13% in lieu of benefits. UTILITY PERSON I – PUBLIC WORKS
Full-Time Position (Term Certain)

The Village of Telkwa is seeking applications for a full-time Utility Person I (Term Certain) in the Public Works Department from June 1, 2017 to May 30, 2018. The position is under the supervision of the Utility Person II, III, and Working Foreman and assists with the day to day operations of the Public Works Department. This may include such things as:
• Maintenance of the water, wastewater, and storm sewer systems
• Maintenance and repair of streets, parks, trails, and green spaces
• Maintenance and repair at the Cemetery
• Garbage collection
• On-call duties as assigned after probationary period

Proponents must have a minimum of Grade 12 with carpentry, mechanical or equipment operator experience. Candidates must have a valid Class 5 driver’s licence (unrestricted) with airbrake endorsement and provide a current driver abstract at time of application. Clearance on a pre-placement medical test will be required. Although not required, preference will be given to candidates with EOCP Level I certifications in one or more of the four disciplines.

This is a CUPE Union position and will be subject to associated Union dues. A detailed job description is available here. The hourly rate of pay for this position is $25.34 with an attractive Benefit Package after completion of the required 90 working day probationary period.

Short Listing and Interviews

Village staff reviews all applications and materials submitted to determine if the minimum qualifications and/or special requirements stated in the job posting are met. Staff then ‘short lists’ and arranges interviews within three weeks of the closing of the job posting.  Typically, a minimum of three candidates will be interviewed.  Applicants not making the ‘short list’ will not be contacted.
