Important Dates for By-Election:
Wednesday, August 26, 2020 – Last date to meet the six-month B.C. residency requirement for persons registering to vote on General Voting Day. (A person must have been a resident of British Columbia for at least six months immediately before he or she registers as an elector. Individuals who move to British Columbia after this date will not be qualified as electors on General Voting Day, which is the last opportunity to register as an elector).
December 15, 2020 - Candidate nomination package become available
January 12, 2021 - Election proceedings period begins
January 12, 2021 (9 a.m.) - Nomination period begins
January 12, 2021 - Start of Public Inspection of Registered Election Period
January 12, 2021 - Start of Objections to Elector Registration Period
January 22, 2021 (4 p.m.) - Nomination period ends
January 22, 2021 - End of period of Objections to Elector Registration
January 22, 2021 (immediately after nomination period ends) - Declaration of candidates
January 26, 2021 - End of Challenge of Nomination Period
January 26, 2021 - End of Challenge of Endorsement Period
January 27, 2021 - Deadline to Become Resident Elector (if Registering on General Voting Day)
January 27, 2021 - Deadline to Become non-Resident Elector (if Registering on General Voting Day)
January 28, 2021 - Notice of Election by voting
January 29, 2021 (4 p.m.) - Last day to submit originals of nomination documents that were submitted by fax or email during the nomination period
January 29, 2021 - Candidate Withdrawal Deadline
January 30, 2021 - Start of Campaign Period
February 12, 2021 (4 p.m.) - Deadline to request a mail ballot package.
February 17, 2021 (8 a.m. to 8 p.m.) - Advance voting at the Village of Telkwa Community Hall
February 27, 2021 (8 a.m. to 8 p.m.) - General Voting Day at the Village of Telkwa Community Hall; and mail ballots must be received by 8 p.m. in order to be counted. Mail ballots received after 8 p.m. are not considered regardless of postmark or other proof of effort to deliver by this date.
February 27, 2021 (8 p.m.) - Election proceedings period ends.
By March 3, 2021 - Declaration of official election results.
By April 17, 2021 – The last day for the elected candidate to take oath of office.
May 28, 2021 - Filing deadline for campaign financing disclosure statements (Local Elections Campaign Financing Act).
June 27, 2021 - Late filing deadline with late filing fee for campaign financing disclosure statements (Local Elections Campaign Financing Act).
