EMERGENCY SERVICES

Telkwa Fire Rescue Department

The Telkwa Fire Rescue Department is made up of people like you, and your neighbor. We are a group of people who go above and beyond for our community. We strive to make Telkwa a safe and friendly community to live in. Join us today and become a Volunteer Firefighter.

The Telkwa Volunteer Fire Department members are trained as firefighters and medical first responders.  Their members perform basic swift water and ice rescue.

Emergency Preparedness

The Village has an Emergency Plan to guide response to major emergencies and disasters. There are also Provincial and Federal entities that play a role in emergency planning and response.

Personal emergency preparedness is also important. It goes a long way toward safeguarding your family – residents should be prepared to take care of themselves for the first 72 hours of an emergency, allowing government agencies to respond effectively to any emergency situation.

Learn more about the Village of Telkwa Emergency Program on the Emergency Preparedness page.

Sign Up for Emergency Alerts Through Voyent Alert

During an emergency it is important that residents have access to reliable, timely, and accurate information to ensure their own safety and that of their family and loved ones. In response to this need, communities within the Regional District of Bulkley Nechako have chosen Voyent Alert! as the communication service provider for these kinds of events.

Voyent Alert! is a multi-purpose communication service used to send alerts to residents, businesses, and visitors during critical events like fires or floods as well as for relevant day-to-day communications such as public works maintenance, snow removal advisories, etc.

Bulkley Emergency Support Services

Who are We?

Bulkley Emergency Support Services (BESS) is a community volunteer organization that provides services to residents who have been affected by an emergency or disaster in the Town of Smithers, Village of Telkwa and Regional District of Bulkley Nechako.

BESS provides care for those affected by a wide range of emergencies and disasters, from single-family home fires to larger scale disasters, such as wildfire and flooding events.

BESS provides emergency support for up to 72 hours after an event such as lodging, food, clothing, and essential items. Larger-scale events may require Group Lodging and Reception Centers in order to provide more extensive, longer-term services like: childcare, family reunification, transportation, communication, health care and many more services through stake holders and partners. BESS also has a mobile contingency where volunteers can deploy to other areas to support other teams though our Mobile Response Unit/ Command Unit and Mobile Reception Centre.

This a great opportunity to be involved in your community and to work alongside other emergency services agencies.
