Acknowledgement: National Day of Truth & Reconciliation

Council and staff acknowledge that it is an honour to work, live, and play on the traditional territory of the Gitdumden Clan of the Wet’suwet’en people.

September 30th is Canada’s first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. In honour of this occasion, the Village of Telkwa has been flying the ‘Every Child Matters’ flag for the month of September in place of the “Telkwa” flag. To show our support, orange t-shirts were worn by Council and staff, in the office and the field.

We encourage you to take part in some of the many activities happening in our region this week to commemorate the history and ongoing trauma caused by residential schools and to honour those who were lost and the survivors, families, and communities who continue to grieve. It is a federal statutory holiday and the Village of Telkwa office will be closed in honour and recognition.
