Flood Watch Update # 3

Flood Watch and Evacuation Alert Information as at June 8, 2022 at 4:00 pm

Residents should be aware that there is still the potential for a flood event. The Hazard Notice and Evacuation Alerts issued Friday, June 3, 2022, remain in place.

The most up-to-date source of information for any changes is your local government’s website:

Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako: www.rdbn.bc.ca or phone 250-692-1553

Town of Smithers: www.smithers.ca or phone 250-877-1183

Village of Telkwa: www.telkwa.ca or phone 778-210-0264

Warm weather and precipitation levels continue to create the possibility of sudden increases in river flow. Residents of low-lying areas should be prepared in case of a significant rise in water levels over a very short time period. Staff continue to monitor the river and weather forecasts and will update the public with any changes.

Please check the River Forecast Centre for the most up-to-date flow predictions: http://bcrfc.env.gov.bc.ca/freshet/map_clever.html

Sand and sandbags are available to all residents in the affected areas of the Bulkley Valley.

Please continue to stay away from Evacuation Alert areas, riverbanks and low-lying areas.
