HAZARD NOTICE: Bulkley River Ice Jam
December 21, 2021, at 1300 hours
A Hazard Notice has been issued by the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako, the Town of Smithers, and the Village of Telkwa effective December 21, 2021, at 1300 hours due to the growing concern of ice jams on the Bulkley River. This Hazard Notice has been issued for all low-lying areas adjacent to the Bulkley River.
The Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako, the Town of Smithers, and the Village of Telkwa are advising residents of the potential for flooding in low-lying areas adjacent to the Bulkley River. It is recommended that residents exercise extreme caution or limit recreation near and around the river at this time.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO TO PREPARE FOR PROPERTY FLOODING
Take precautions to help prevent damage to your home, and to ensure personal safety by:
moving equipment and other belongings susceptible to water damage to higher ground;
moving pets and livestock to a safe area; and,
gathering essential items such as food, water, medications, and immediate care needs to sustain you and your dependents for up to seven days.
