NOTICE: Telkwa River Crossing Construction and Power Outages - BC Hydro
April to October 2021
TO OUR CUSTOMERS:
This construction season crews will be seen in Telkwa at roughly Birch and Cottonwood streets, replacing the river crossing configuration across the Telkwa river after the 2017 high river event that compromised one of our high voltage towers.
This work will also require two significant power outages to the communities of Telkwa, Smithers, New Hazelton and Hazelton. The first, in August, to allow crews to safely move the flow of power to a temporary bypass line, then a second, in October, to transition back to the new and improved permanent configuration. The time between the outages will be used to build the new structures.
In order to provide a safe work environment and protect the public it will be necessary to restrict traffic on the river during specific dates and times. For details about the nature of the work, its impact, and restriction period related to the Canadian Navigable Water Act, please go to the Common Project Search Registry with registry number 3651. There is also a link on that site should you have comments or questions you could not find answers to.
We apologize for the inconvenience this project may cause; however, we need to ensure the safety of the crews performing this important upgrade work and protect members of the public.
BC Hydro would like to thank you for your patience and understanding.
