Economic Development Officer Contract (Exempt)

The Village of Telkwa is seeking a dynamic Economic Development Officer (EDO) to lead local economic development initiatives and champion the opportunities present in the Village to key audiences and stakeholders.

Reporting directly to the Chief Administrative Officer, the EDO will provide economic planning, marketing and promotional strategies with a focus on attraction, retention, and development of business and industry. This contract position requires an outgoing, responsible professional with the ability to effectively liaise with senior staff, local and regional groups and businesses, and other levels of government.


The successful candidate will be a highly motivated self-starter with a strong working knowledge of local government and business, and must possess exceptional written and verbal skills.  Excellent time management and organizational skills are essential in order to meet strict deadlines and the overall requirements of this busy position.  

This is a contract position for the 2021 calendar year, with review and possible extension at year’s end.

Full-Time One-Year Term Position (With Possibility of Extension)

The Village of Telkwa is seeking a highly motivated individual with strong organizational, communication, and administrative skills. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the Executive Assistant (EA) provides confidential support to the CAO and the Senior Management Team. The EA performs a wide variety of administrative duties that requires significant multi-tasking abilities and initiative to effectively coordinate various demands, tasks and projects. The EA will facilitate communications, information flow and working relationships with both internal and external contacts. Utilizing exceptional business writing skills, the EA will prepare confidential and general correspondence, draft reports and participate in preparation of presentations to Council. At least 30% (550 hours) of time will be spent on grant research, grant writing, reporting, and support for the organization. Under the direction of Management, the EA will deal with a full range of project dimensions that may include legal, property, public contact, and liaising with various levels of government, and other regulatory bodies.

Required Education and Experience:

  • A degree in business administration, or a relevant diploma combined with a Local Government Administration Certificate

  • At least five years of recent, related administration experience supporting senior management

  • A combination of education and experience may be considered

  • Experience working in a local government environment preferred

  • High proficiency in working with office software, such as: Word, Excel, Publisher, MAIS, CivicWeb, iCompass, Zoom, Teams, etc.
