Childcare in Telkwa

Village of Telkwa Council identified childcare as a priority in Telkwa and is committed to reduce barriers and increase capacity for childcare in the community.

One of the ways we hope to achieve this is to enhance awareness and access to resources, ensuring clear, easy-to-find information for both current residents and families considering relocating to Telkwa.

Family Resources

Child Care Resource and Referral (CCRRs) programs enhance the availability and accessibility of a range of child care options and services and build relationships within the child care sector to support the advancement of the ChildCareBC Plan.

The Ministry of Education and Child Care provides funding to CCRR service providers, which work with the Province to improve access to affordable, quality and inclusive child care in all B.C. communities.

Do you want to be a childcare provider?

The next step for the Village of Telkwa is to develop centralized resources for current and potential childcare providers to reduce barriers to starting or expanding childcare facilities and provide assistance navigating licensing and funding.

Operating with a Licence

In the Northern Health licensing officers monitor care facilities region to ensure compliance with the provincial legislation. An inspection report is provided to the licensee after each inspection. The inspection report provides the licensee with information regarding the regulatory requirements.

Operating without a Licence

Unlicensed child care providers may care for only two children or a sibling group, not related to them, at any one time. If someone cares for more than the allowed number of children outlined in the Community Care and Assisted Living Act without a community care facility licence, they may be operating in contravention.
