  • Nomination Package: General Local Elections 2022

    Have you considered giving back to our community by running for Mayor or a Councillor for the Village of Telkwa in the upcoming 2022 General Local Elections on October 15? Nomination packages are now available for pickup at the Village of Telkwa office (1415 Hankin Avenue) and will be available until the close of the nomination period at 4:00 pm on Friday, September 9, 2022. Completed packages must be received by the Chief Election Officer or Deputy Chief Election Officer by 4:00 pm on Friday, September 9, 2022 to qualify.   • Cycle 16: Plant a Tree Fundraiser

    Plant a tree, or many trees and offset your carbon footprint. Cycle 16 Trail Society's goal is to build a multi-use off-highway trail between Smithers and Telkwa. Phase 1 of the trail is currently being constructed, and Cycle 16 Trail Society is fundraising for Phase 2 of the trail. The Society is selling pine, spruce, hemlock, fir, cedar and birch trees, generously donated by Woodmere Nursery, all of which are approximately 1 foot tall. Minimum donation is $2 per tree.   • Notification of Low Level Flying Aug. 2-31, 2022

    Notification of Low Level Flying over the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako Talon Helicopters will be performing low level flying for LiDAR surveys from August 2nd to 31st, 2022 during daylight hours, per Special Authorization issued by Transport Canada. There will be approximately 5-10 days of work with flights estimated to be approximately 4 hours per day, covering lines in the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine. There are 3 regional districts in BC that we will pass through, therefore the flight time over a single area will be minimal. There will be no activity on the ground related to this flight.   • BC Transit: Reduced Service Notice

    Please be advised of the following alert for all routes in Smithers Regional Transit System: Reduced Service Notice In order to ensure that the buses on the road are in safe and reliable condition, it has become necessary to reduce service to allow the appropriate maintenance work to be completed. Smithers & District Transit will be amending their hours. Effective Wednesday, July 13th the following trip times will be cancelled until Saturday July 16th.   • Seniors Digital Literacy Program

    The Village of Telkwa has received funding from the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program (the “Program”) to purchase and install computers at specific locations within the Village, which will be accessible to seniors. The funding includes virtual training workshops through Connected Canadians, empowering seniors’ digital knowledge on topics including how to use Zoom, recognizing email phishing scams, safe digital communication, and more. The Program is a federal grants and contributions program whose goal is to support projects that help improve the well-being of seniors and foster social inclusion and engagement in their communities. Monthly virtual training workshops, through Connected Canadians’ trained mentors, are scheduled for the last Thursday of the month, commencing June 2022 and ending in March 2023. Connected Canadians is a federally registered non-profit organization that provides technology training and support to Canadian seniors, fostering digital literacy skills. The Village invites seniors from the community to attend the workshops either from their personal computer or using one of the Program’s computers within the Village.     The Village of Telkwa 2021 Annual Municipal Report is available for inspection to all interested members of the public at the Village office, pursuant to Sections 97 and 98 of the Community Charter. A digital version is linked below and hard copies are available at the office during business hours (Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 12:30 pm and 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm). Please submit questions or comments on the Report to info@telkwa.ca and/or attend the Special Meeting of Council to be held on June 28, 2022 at 5:00 pm in Council Chambers at 1415 Hankin Avenue, Telkwa, BC, where Council will consider the 2021 Annual Municipal Report, pursuant to Section 99 of the Community Charter.
